Advanced Haemoglobin Variant Analysis through HPLC An extensive evaluation of the VARIANT™ system, based on standards established by the College of American Pathologists, demonstrated the enhanced sensitivity of High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) in haemoglobin analysis.
A total of 21,25,569 consecutive samples were analysed between June 6, 2006 and October 8, 2025 using an automated HPLC system, with findings compared against established diagnostic methods.
HPLC identified three abnormal haemoglobin patterns that were not detected through conventional gel electrophoresis.
The findings demonstrate the greater sensitivity of HPLC in detecting haemoglobin variants that may otherwise remain unidentified.
With its enhanced sensitivity, consistency and reliability, HPLC is considered a preferred method for routine haemoglobin analysis in hospitals and clinical reference laboratories.
